Winter Rules are now in effect as of 12/1/09
Please read below for winter rules before you Burn!
If you wish to burn brush there must be significant snow cover in the area that you are burning in, and you must contact the Hollis Communications Center at the Non Emergency number before lighting your fire @ 465-2303. For any further questions please call the Hollis Fire Department at the non emergency number @ 465-6001
The following are summer rules when in effect.
You must obtain a written fire permit to burn brush which can be obtained at the Fire Station between the hours of 7:00am -7:00pm. Burning is allowed after 5:00pm weather conditions permitting.
In the event of rain you may burn during the daytime hours a fire permit is required.
Fire danger rating chart below:
Class 1 A class 1 day is a day a forest fire is not likely to start. (LOW)
Class 2 A class 2 day the danger is MODERATE, but it is possible for fires to start in light flashy fuels but will have a slow rate of spread.
Class 3 A class 3 day the fire danger is HIGH and fine fuels in open areas and sunny slopes may spread rapidly.
Class 4 A class 4 day the fire danger is VERY HIGH and fires will start easily from all causes. Fires will spread rapidly and increase in intensity rapidly meaning they will be hard to extinguish. Spot fires may occur and, except in spring, will burn deep.
Class 5 A class 5 day the danger is EXTREME. Small fires will spread very rapidly meaning they will be hard to extinguish. Severe spotting may occur and mop-up will require a great deal of effort.
