Hollis Energy Committee

Hollis Energy Committee - Subcommittee Roles

The HEC is actively looking for help in the areas listed below.  If you are passionate about making changes to the local environment and to help reduce our energy consumption in Hollis, please email the HEC

Public Relations
        ◦ Develop an overarching strategy for communicating and receiving feedback with the Hollis Town
residents and our State and Federal Representatives.
        ◦ Write articles and keep print, radio, and TV media updated with the HEC activities
        ◦ Maintain the HEC web site
        ◦ Publish HEC quarterly newsletter
        ◦ Organize expert lectures, seminars, and fun get-togethers to educate the public

Grant/Proposal Writing
        ◦ Manage and report on the various grant opportunities upcoming and in progress
        ◦ Search for new funding opportunities, including ones collaborating with the schools or local organizations
        ◦ Manage the various proposal writing efforts

Political Liaison
        ◦ Provide a focal point for the Committee for interaction with various political representatives
        ◦ Work closely with the Public Relations Team to publicize the work of the HEC

Finance and Business
        ◦ Develop strategies to procure funds (non-governmental) to support HEC efforts
        ◦ Manage and report on funds and financial activity to team and Selectmen
        ◦ Assist in soliciting product donations from area retailers in order to support various HEC activities

Sustainable Energy Technology
        ◦ Serve as focal point for HEC as the technology knowledge base
        ◦ Understand and be able to assist residents with the various options, including tradeoffs to help
understand best fits for the various Hollis structures (geo thermal, heat pumps, fuel cells, micro CHP,
           biomass, solar, wind, etc)
        ◦ Work with the Public Relations team to participate at organized educational events

Emerging Technology Applications
        ◦ Work with various industry leaders and commercial entities to find how Hollis can participate in new and
emerging technologies, empowering Hollis to be at the forefront of the technical curve.
        ◦ Set up partnerships with startups. Cost could be a barrier, so one approach is to focus on small
prototype installations where we provide feedback from real-world testing
        ◦ Work with Finance, Residential, and Community Education Programs subcommittees to develop yearly
Hollis Energy Conference, where representatives from any Green Energy industry are invited to display
their products and present their technology papers. This should be a money-making (cost for booths and
breakfast and lunch) event for HEC.

Residential Programs
        ◦ Work with suppliers/manufacturers and local certified installers to set up Hollis-wide group purchase
discounts and incentives for sustainable energy conservation and generation products and projects
        ◦ Work with the Public Relations team to distribute the information to the citizens of Hollis

Community Education Programs (subject to Selectman's charter change approval)
        ◦ Create community education programs
        ◦ Work with the schools to develop sustainable energy educational programs based on the HEC's work
        ◦ Work with the Grant/Proposal Team to find and apply for educational-focused grants

New England Carbon Challenge Program
        ◦ Lead the community to actively participate in the NECC.
        ◦ Promote participation at various local events or sites
