New Business

Sharon stated that John Butler has not yet looked at the window in the Hearse House. She told the Trustees that if the window could not be repaired he suggested finding a salvaged one.

Sharon informed the Trustees that Helena Hayden’s website was started to be factual and set the record straight regarding Pine Hill Cemetery. Sharon went to Pine Hill Cemetery a couple of weeks ago to take pictures of the orbs. Of the pictures she had taken two of them had orbs in them. Sharon explained that orbs are quite normal. They are light colored bubbles. They are a phenomenon created by ionized gas or a magnetic field. The orb is usually created near metal. Some people call "orbs" ball lightning. Sharon’s only problem with the website was the last line. It stated that people may enter the cemetery at night with permission. Sharon wanted to ask Helena to please change that sentence to read Closed Dusk till Dawn Trespassers will be prosecuted. The Trustees all agreed.

Kathy stated that she would contact the police chief to ask for police detail on Halloween weekend for Pine Hill Cemetery. She would like coverage to begin on Thursday, October 31 and end on Saturday, November 1, 2003 from 8:00pm – 1:00am. She felt the Trustees could leave it at the chief’s discretion for coverage of other cemeteries and for Sunday, November 2, 2003.

Kathy informed the Trustees that they would need to appear before the Selectmen with their proposed 2004 budget. They all agreed that last years figures were sufficient and unanimously decided to keep the budget the same. Sharon wondered at what point in time it would be more cost effective for them to have the town hire a half time person for landscaping purposes. The Trustees understood her concern but felt the time was not now.

Kathy informed the Trustees that she received a call at home from an irate Mr. Norman Storres. He explained to her on the phone that he lives in Arizona and while passing through town he had visited his wife’s grave in East Cemetery. He felt that his wife’s grave was in disarray. Kathy explained that East Cemetery has had a lot of grub trouble in the past and has no watering system. She also explained that we have had a lot of rainfall. Kathy assured him that she would look into this matter immediately. Kathy informed the Trustees that she had spoken to Jeff of JP Lawn Maintenance and found out that the East Cemetery was scheduled for mowing the day of the phone call. Nancy informed the Trustees that Barbara, a daughter of the deceased had moved to Florida and no longer tends for the gravesite.

Gayle Rimbach & Leslie O’Shaughnessy wrote a letter to the Trustees asking permission to place a bench under the tree located adjacent to their father’s lot in the East Cemetery.

The Trustees unanimously agreed to approve this request with the condition that the bench be no longer than 4 feet. The secretary will call and write a letter to Gail & Leslie to inform them of the Trustees decision.

Jeff questioned the minutes of September 18, 2003 (Page 3) regarding the request of Vahrij Manoukian to place a bench at the site of his lots in the East Cemetery. He did not understand why the Trustees felt the bench needed to be in lieu of a monument. The bench would be placed behind the lots abutting the tree line. The secretary asked Vahrij for the dimensions of the bench after last month’s meeting and has not heard back from him. The Trustees will not make a decision until they hear back from Vahrij.

Jeff also questioned Page 2, Paragraph 5, under New Business. He felt that Pat Connarns late brothers girlfriend owned the deed to the grave. If a monument were ever to be approved her permission would be needed. The Trustees unanimously agreed with him.

Kathy questioned an e-mail referred to in the September 18, 2003 minutes (Page 2, Paragraph 1, under New Business). Kathy wondered why anyone would want every child’s name buried in the cemetery. She also asked how Deb was able to e-mail her all of the names. Kim informed Kathy that she probably e-mailed her all of the names of the people buried in Pine Hill Cemetery. Deb created a database that makes it very simple to do so.

Kathy presented Chris’s plan for the potential improvements of Church Cemetery to Jeff and Sharon. They did not receive a copy at last month’s meeting because they were not present. The Trustees decided to discuss it next month when Chris would be present.

Sharon requested that Deb look up "Gonry" the name on the stone that the Trustees thought was out of place in the Pine Hill Cemetery.

The Trustees requested Kim to write a letter to the DPW regarding the great job they did on the Hearse House.
