New Business
Kim read an e-mail (attached to these minutes) to the Trustees from Dodie Claar. In the e-mail it thanked the Trustees for keeping the cemetery looking so beautiful. She also requested a list of all the people buried in the cemetery. Deb e-mailed her the list and she was grateful.
A letter was written to the Trustees from the Karl Vogel Family requesting permission to plant an Asian Dogwood tree behind their plot in the East Cemetery #844-843 in the spring of 2004. The Trustees unanimously agreed that they could plant the tree but it needs to be planted in a designated tree lot. The Trustees asked the Secretary to inform the Vogel’s of their decision but to inform them that they will need to contact town hall prior to planting. The reason being is that Jeff (DPW) will need to stake out the exact location of where the tree will be planted. (The letter is attached)
The Colonial Garden Club was $2000.00 under budget on the Memorial Park Project. They offered to spend $500.00 of it to have Herm Stickney remove the brush between Church Cemetery and Memorial Park. Pat Coughlin, Colonial Garden Club Member, requested that the Trustees discuss the offer at tonight’s meeting, and to have the secretary inform her the following day of their decision. The Trustees decided that they would not like to have the brush removed at this time. The asked the secretary to inform Pat Coughlin of their decision.
Sharon did not attend the meeting but requested that the Trustees decide if they want John Butler to repair the window in the Hearse House. If so, Sharon agreed to meet him at the Hearse House to give him the window but needed to have the DPW contacted to let her in. The Trustees agreed that Sharon should meet John Butler at the Hearse House and he should take a look at the window. The Secretary will contact Sharon and let her know that the Trustees would like her to meet John Butler at the Hearse House. The Secretary will also contact the DPW and ask them to unlock the building for them.
Pat Connarn contacted Deb at town hall regarding the lot of her brother John William Koster located in the East Cemetery. She explained to Deb that her late brothers girlfriend purchased the lot and flush marker at the time of his death and has since remarried. Pat wanted to put a monument on her brother’s grave. Deb told her that monuments were not allowed on two grave lots, in order to place a monument on a grave you must have four lots in that section of the cemetery to have an upright monument. She was willing to purchase two more lots so that she would have the required four lots. Deb informed her that there were no lots available next to her brother’s lot. The secretary informed the Trustees of this conversation and they all agreed that it would be best to wait until after town meeting to make a decision. They asked that Pat Connarn be contacted with their decision.
Sharon E-mailed all the Trustees and the Secretary an e-mail regarding a website (Hollow Hill) that concerned her. Everyone agreed to wait to discuss the Website and e-mail until Sharon was present at the meeting next month.
Kathy stated that she had phoned the Police Chief. He informed her that someone had requested permission to film in the cemetery after hours, which he allowed. Kathy explained to him that she was concerned about the cemetery this Halloween. She asked him about this website (hollow hill) and what their legal standing would be regarding it. He stated that he would need to view the website before commenting. Kathy asked the Police Chief to contact Sharon Howe for all the facts regarding this website.
Chris presented a plan for the improvements to Church Cemetery. The Trustees decided to discuss it next month when all the members would be present. Chris stated that he would get some preliminary pricing for next month’s meeting. (The plan is attached)
Old Business
Last month Vahrij Manoukian requested permission to place a bench next to his cemetery lots in the East Cemetery. The Trustees were unsure of the exact location therefore, could not make a decision. Kim informed the Trustees that Deb took her to the East Cemetery earlier that day to show her where the Manoukian lots were located. Kim stated that they were in the new two grave lot section in the back row. The Trustees stated that they could not make a decision until they had the dimensions and materials of the bench. They also informed the secretary that the bench would be in lieu of a monument(s).
