Jeff contacted Herm Stickney for an estimate to cut down the dead trees in the East Cemetery. Particularly the Birch and the dead Elm Tree (4 trunk) near the Bugbee stone. The Trustees decided to table the discussion until Chris –Chairman was present to discuss dollar figures.
New Business
The secretary informed the Commission that a tentative date of July 26, 2004 @ 7pm was set up with the selectmen to discuss the stonewall project. She asked if everyone was free that evening. J. Oliver questioned what the meeting was about. Nancy heard that the VFW was against them installing a stonewall around the Churchyard Cemetery. Nancy felt the meeting might be about their complaint. Joe felt that he would not attend the meeting until he knew exactly what the Selectmen wanted to discuss, he did not want to be blindsided. The secretary gave him Cath Hallsworth’s phone number and suggested he contact her for more details. Jeff and Nancy were fine with the meeting. The Trustees liked the idea of a stonewall enclosing the cemetery. They did not intend to clear cut the trees between the cemetery and Memorial Park. They stated that it was a state law to have cemeteries enclosed.
The secretary gave the Trustees a copy of the Stone Hill Environmental Report. (attached to minutes) She suggested they read it over and write down any questions they might have. She suggested asking these questions to the Selectmen at the meeting on July 26, 2004.
The closing between the Weston’s and the Town of Hollis for the new cemetery land is scheduled for August 18, 2004 @ 9am.
The secretary informed the Trustees that only about 20 lots remained for sale in the North Cemetery. She suggested having the next section surveyed. The Trustees tabled this discussion until next month.
Joe wanted to discuss the measurements at the East Cemetery. He stated that the corner stones were off a couple of feet, and eventually this would cause serious problems. The Trustees agreed to look into this problem over the next month and tabled the discussion.
Old Business
Jeff stated Gate City Fence was scheduled to begin work at the Lawrence Cemetery on August 2, 2004.
Nancy agreed to call the secretary with Virginia Wilkins address so that the secretary could write her a letter regarding trimming the bushes over her family stone.
Jonathan Flynn, Eagle Scout, started his project at the cemetery. He started clearing the new entrance and closed off the old entrance near the church.
Nancy stated that Dan Brown, Northern View, was still in business. Chris stated that he could not reach him after the Trustees voted to hire him. The Trustees decided to wait to contact him until after they have their meeting with the Selectmen.
