Old Business
Doug updated the Trustees on the progress of the Churchyard Cemetery stonewall. Kevin Gardner, contractor, ran out of stones, so he is finished for now. Kevin will come back in September to finish the project.
The Trustees need to find more stones to finish the project. Kim informed the Trustees that a couple of buildings were going to be removed from the Woodmont Orchard property. The selectmen suggested they contact Peter Baker, Land Stewardship Committee Chairperson, to discuss the possibility of the Trustees using the foundation stones for the stonewall project. Doug volunteered to contact Peter Baker.
The Trustees asked the secretary to send a letter to the selectmen (BOS) regarding progress of the stonewall project.
Last month, the Trustees denied a request from Senka Fallon to install a small headstone in the East Cemetery, Section E, Lot #203 because she did not have the required four lots. The Trustees suggested that Senka purchase the three lots surrounding her lot, which would give her the required amount of lots to erect an upright monument. It appeared that two of the three lots were already sold to a family named Knight but the town offices had no record of the transaction. After researching and making several phone calls the secretary found out the following:
The secretary explained that Selectmen LeDoux spoke to Senka and wanted the Trustees to come to some reasonable compromise. The Trustees would not bend the rules but because of the circumstances surrounding this request, they would be willing to allow Senka to purchase the two lots being turned back in at that same price, which should be considerable lower due to the fact that they were purchased over ten years ago. She would need to pay full price for the third lot. The secretary agreed to pass this information along to selectmen LeDoux.
The secretary informed the Trustees that it was the DPW who cut behind the last rows at the East Cemetery. The Trustees thought it looked great.
New Business
The Trustees received a letter from Mrs. Moore (attached) complaining about the condition of her cemetery lot located at the East Cemetery. Mrs. Moore came in to the town hall and spoke to Kim Dogherty on June 14th. She informed Kim that the landscape company had run over one of her two rosebushes. She also stated that the overall condition of the lot was terrible. Mrs. Moore requested that the lot be reseeded and asked to have the other rosebush removed. Kim assured her this would be handled immediately. Kim contacted DPW and asked them to handle the matter of reseeding her lot and removal of the rosebush. Mike, DPW worker, contacted Kim around 2pm on the same day and stated that he would take care of Mrs. Moore’s lot.
Kim contacted Nancy, landscape liaison, and asked her to contact Ekstrom regarding this matter.
Nancy reported that Ekstrom did not recall the rosebushes and did not believe he ran them over. Ekstrom agreed to be very careful in the future to make sure that this does not happen again.
Doug agreed to draft a letter to Mrs. Moore explaining that her complaint was already handled and apologize to her for the unneeded stress this placed on her.
DPW installed railroad ties at the North Cemetery parking lot to delineate the parking area. They hope this will discourage visitors from parking on the grass.
