Inspection of East Cemetery
Overall the Cemetery looked good.
Kim to instruct JP Lawn Maintenance on a few items that need attention in the East Cemetery:
1. Remove a dead tree between the Seager Lot and the Wood Lot.
2. Clean up the area around the Bell lot where the tree was removed and spread seed so that the grass will grow back.
3. Remove planter boxes over the Denault stone. The stone is located under a red maple tree down the third entrance of the cemetery.
Kim to instruct DPW on a few items that need attention in the East Cemetery:
1. The amount of straw is excessive and should be reduced. Does the DPW remove the straw?
2. Remove the tree growing next to the Bates Lot.
3. Remove shrubs surrounding the Lull stone located next to the Hearse House.
4. Remove the large shrubs surrounding the Lund stone in the N.W section of the cemetery
Old Business
Jeff stated that he was still in the process of repairing the stones at Pine Hill Cemetery.
Jeff had spoken to Roger, Gate City Monument, regarding fixing the broken stones at the South Cemetery. Jeff stated he would set up an appointment with Roger as soon as he had time. He also spoke to a company in Maine that specialized in repairing old stones and would also set an appointment up with them.
Doug had informed Chris earlier in the day that he did get a chance to speak with Jeff Pearl. Jeff Pearl agreed to provide a quote to the Trustees regarding the price for fertilizer and lime applications.
The Trustees located the missing stone for Harry Bell. Nancy agreed to contact the lot owners and tell them the great news. The Trustees moved the Anderson’s bench from the Bell Lot back to the Anderson lot.
New Business
Nancy received a phone call from Lydia Schellenberg regarding her flush stone at the East Cemetery. Lydia explained that the stone was sinking into the ground and asked that the Trustees rectify the situation. Kim agreed to contact Jeff/DPW and ask him to call Chris to schedule a time to meet and discuss this problem.
Kim received a letter from the Raymond family requesting permission to plant two boxwood shrubs on either side of their stone. Chris moved to allow two boxwood shrubs to be planted at the Raymond lot. Jeff seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
The Trustees felt that a new policy should be implemented requiring a signature from lot owners who are approved to plant shrubs. The secretary suggested a copy of the landscaping section in the Rules and Regulations could be signed. The secretary agreed to discuss how to keep track of approved bushes in the cemetery with Deb Adams.
The Trustees noticed considerable damage to the lawn in Sections B, E & H. They felt the damage was probably due to grubs. They intended to have these areas seeded in the fall.
Roger Saunders contacted Chris concerned that someone had sprayed a chemical in the cemetery that killed the shrubs around his lot. Roger asked if he could remove the shrubs and plant a dogwood tree instead. The Trustees noticed that all of the similar shrubs in the cemetery looked as though deer had eaten the leaves. To the best of the Trustees knowledge chemicals were not sprayed in the East Cemetery. Nancy stated that trees could only be planted in designated tree lot sections. Nancy stated that if the Saunders family were willing to leave the remaining two spaces open in their Family Lot then they would be able to plant a tree. The open space would allow room for a tree to grow. Nancy stated that this was the only way in the past that the Trustees would approve a tree being planted directly on a lot. Chris agreed to contact Roger Saunders to relay their decision.
