Attendees: Chris Buzzy - Chairman, Nancy Bell and Jeff Snow
Absent: Kathy Albee
The meeting was held in the South Cemetery and was called to order at 6:30 pm.
Minutes
Chris moved to approve the minutes of March 18, 2004 as submitted. Nancy seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
Inspection of South Cemetery
The Trustees noticed grub damage throughout the entire cemetery. They decided to wait until the summer to have a treatment applied because they felt spring treatments were not effective. Overall the Cemetery looked good. Typical spring clean up of leaves and other debris will be necessary.
Debbie to instruct JP Lawn Maintenance on a few items that need attention:
Chris to contact Clem Michaud regarding possibility of repairing broken stones. (items bolded are priority)
Inspection of South Cemetery concluded at 6:55 pm.
New Business
Chris agreed to meet with Dick Medlyn, Medlyn Monument and Jeff Babel, DPW in the next couple of weeks to discuss a possible solution for the 2 stones in the East Cemetery that are out of alignment.
Jeff received a phone call from Dave Orde, Lull Farm, regarding the orchard that is part of the cemetery land just purchased. Dave Orde wondered if the Trustees would be in favor of him farming the land. The Trustees unanimously agreed that Dave Orde should meet them at the East Cemetery next month to discuss the possibilities. Jeff agreed to contact Dave Orde and invite him to their next meeting on May 20, 2004 at 6:30 pm.
Chris stated that two bids were received for lawn maintenance in the cemeteries from JP Lawn Maintenance and Stormy Moon Vocational Development Farm. After reviewing both bids Jeff moved and Chris seconded a motion to hire JP Lawn Maintenance for the upcoming year. The motion carried unanimously.
Nancy spoke to Vahrij Manoukian, Selectman, wondering if he had any prospects for the open Trustee position. He told her that Bob and Carol Jehu were interested. Nancy agreed to contact them to discuss the position.
Old Business
Debbie has not heard from Dona Lowe.
Jeff contacted Ken at Gate City for a price to fix the gate and fence surrounding the Lawrence cemetery. Jeff recommended installing a gate on the side of the cemetery instead of in front. The Trustees agreed. Jeff will be meeting with Ken next week to discuss the different options and prices.
Chris explained that the company they were going to hire, Northern View, to construct the wall in the Church Cemetery no longer existed. He tried to contact them several times and couldn’t reach them. He met with another company on Saturday morning and was shocked when the estimate had more than doubled Northern View at $37,000. He proceeded to call New Earth for another estimate. He spoke to Randy Farwell who suggested finding someone in town to donate the rock. Randy felt this would drastically reduce the cost of building the wall. He had yet to give Chris an estimate.
Chris contacted Billy Burton who was not able to donate any rock. Chris will contact Brookdale Farm in the upcoming month to see if they will donate any rock for the wall.
Chris had spoken to Pat Coughlin, Colonial Garden Club, last week regarding the improvements they will be doing to Memorial Park. Pat explained the garden club would begin the project around Memorial Day. Chris to contact Pat to see if she will postpone the project until late fall so that the Trustees may have time to build the wall first.
