Hollis Cemetery Trustees

Minutes of January 20, 2005

Attendees: Chris Buzzy - Chairman, Nancy Bell, Kathy Albee and Joe Oliver

Absent: Jeff Snow

The meeting was held in the Lower Town Hall and was called to order at 7:05 pm.

Minutes

Chris moved to approve the minutes of November 18, 2004 as submitted. Joe seconded and the motion carried unanimously.

Old Business

Joe moved to have the bushes trimmed around the Lund family stone in the East Cemetery. Chris seconded and the motion carried unanimously

Kathy inquired about the bench of Vahrij Manoukian in the East Cemetery. She requested the chairman to find out the status of the installation.

New Business

The Trustees reviewed their 2004 Cemetery budget.

Chris distributed a letter to the Trustees from Benjamin Campbell regarding the town plowing cemeteries. Chris volunteered to write a letter to him denying his request based on concerns of damage to pathways and stones.

Joe discussed his statement of work (SOW) regarding a fertilization and weed control program. (SOW attached) Joe was concerned with weed removal but did not want to encourage excessive grass growth. The Trustees discussed the issue with no resolution but agreed they needed more technical information. Joe agreed to contact several more vendors to get the additional information.

Nancy stated that three stones were missing in the East Cemetery. Three flat stones were missing in the area where the tree was just removed. Nancy stated that Kim’s request to the Dept of Public Works (DPW) to locate the stones was put off until the spring due to weather conditions. Nancy agreed to contact Herm Stickney to ask him if he recalled seeing the stones when he removed the tree.

Chris discussed an e-mail sent to him from Deb Adams, regarding a desired winter burial. He informed the Trustees that he denied the request because of the damage that plowing the cemetery would cause roadways and stones.

Chris suggested designating formal roadways in newly developed sections of the East Cemetery. Kathy and Joe felt that plowing the cemeteries in the winter would invite further problems. The Trustees agreed to discuss this issue when all members were present.
